“The Role of Art in a Global Crisis” Panel Held at Elgiz Museum
On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Elgiz Museum welcomed international VIP guests of Contemporary Istanbul. As part of the program, guided tours were organized for the temporary exhibition “Season of Mirage”, the Elgiz Permanent Collection, and the 17th Terrace Exhibition “Reflections from the Terrace.” The day continued with a brunch and a panel discussion.
The panel, titled “Art and Artists in Times of Global Crisis,” was moderated by curator Vittorio Urbani. The speakers included Leyla Alaton, Board Member of Alarko Holding; Alejandra Castro Rioseco, founder of Mia Art Collection Dubai; and Melis Buyruk, a ceramic artist.
The discussion explored topics such as the protection of artists, combating prejudice, and the support of women artists. It was emphasized that in today’s global crisis, art is not only an aesthetic production but also a form of social resistance, liberation, and a defense of human values. Particular attention was drawn to the need for empowering women artists within the art world.
With this special event, Elgiz Museum once again highlighted the transformative power of art and provided a dynamic platform for meaningful dialogue.
