The 17th Terrace Exhibition Opens Under the Title Reflections from the Terrace

The 17th edition of the Terrace Exhibitions, initiated in 2012 by Elgiz Museum—Turkey’s first contemporary art museum—has opened under the title Reflections from the Terrace.
The exhibition, which will remain open until the end of October, brings together large-scale contemporary sculptures. Unlike previous years, this year’s edition was organized by invitation and features a curated selection of outdoor sculptures made with various materials and techniques, all resistant to weather conditions. The exhibition includes works by 35 artists, selected by an advisory committee from among those who previously participated in the Terrace Exhibitions and who have consistently continued their artistic production. It stands out by reflecting the accumulation and legacy of past years.
Since its inception, the Terrace Exhibitions have displayed 512 works by 303 artists, continuing to lead in making sculpture more visible and accessible. By bringing together artists from different cities across Turkey, the exhibitions maintain their pioneering role in the field. Located on the museum’s 2,000-square-meter terrace, the exhibitions aim to showcase contemporary, original, and innovative examples of sculpture. Initiated as part of the Elgiz Museum’s 10th anniversary celebrations, the project was conceptualized by Haşim Nur Gürel and Can Elgiz. The advisory board includes prominent figures such as Seyhun Topuz, Rahmi Aksungur, Nilüfer Ergin, Meliha Sözeri, and Ömer Emre Yavuz, further affirming the exhibition’s status as one of the most comprehensive and enduring sculpture exhibitions in the country.
Previously organized through open calls and framed around globally and nationally relevant themes, this summer’s edition focuses on bringing together emerging and mid-career artists who have made a mark in the field of sculpture.
The exhibition gains a unique significance through its striking setting and the dialogue between the artworks and the urban landscape. By extending beyond enclosed gallery spaces and establishing a transparent relationship with the city, it offers new interpretive possibilities for viewers. The integration of the terrace with the city transforms it into a public space, enriching the meaning and impact of the exhibited sculptures.
Reflections from the Terrace opens a wide spectrum ranging from traditional materials to contemporary sculptural languages, reminding us once again of art’s liberating power through the creative practices of the artists.
The exhibition will also be supported by educational programs for children and youth organized by Elgiz Museum.
Throughout the summer, works by the following artists will be on view:
