A DIALOGUE OF TIMES, GEOGRAPHIES, AND FORMS: "GATHERING" EXHIBITION AT THE ELGIZ MUSEUM
As one of Türkiye’s well-established contemporary art collections, the Elgiz Collection brings together diverse generations, geographies, and disciplines, juxtaposing newly acquired works with existing pieces in the collection.
“Gathering” explores the different eras and layers of the collection through this encounter. Emphasizing that the Elgiz Collection belongs neither to a single geography nor to a privileged technique, the exhibition can be visited at the Elgiz Museum between August and November 2026.
“Gathering” unites the touchstones of art history with the innovative pursuits of contemporary art through the aesthetics of darkness, shadow, and shared memory. Timeless works by masters such as Selma Gürbüz, Mimmo Paladino, Candeğer Furtun, and Rebecca Horn stand alongside productions by artists including Cevdet Erek, Zeki Demirkubuz, Alimi Adewale, Mario Testino, Stephen Dean, and Assume Vivid Astro Focus, creating an encounter space that transcends boundaries. Tim White-Sobieski’s piece, acquired by the Elgiz Collection in 2005 as one of its earliest video works, highlights the collection’s acquisitions across different eras and its opening toward new media art.
Rather than being confined to a specific period or movement, the selection draws on the universal nature of creative expression, bringing sculpture, painting, photography, textiles, digital prints, and installations into the same realm. Dominated by dark tones, bronze, wood, ink, and silver prints, the curation focuses on the transformation of materials, the noble silence of forms, and the boundless power of dialogue in art.
